But let me personally tell you at the outset, character drawing is more fun because it is more difficult. You need to have right techniques in your handbag. Apart from that you will need to rehearse a lot before you start making decent cartoon heroes.

Your cartoon characters need not be human: an animal or even lifeless objects can represent a character. I am sure you know about Mickey mouse Mouse or Tom and Jerry.

To be successful in character drawing you need to remember the big difference between a prop and a character. In one line it can be said: a character normally communicates something to the viewer through facial phrase, gesture or body terminology, whereas a prop just remains there in the scene.

So your main task as a persona artist is to leave your creation communicate with the watcher. You will need to learn the basics of expression. Thankfully the basics of drawing significant characters are same no matter if your persona is a man, a cat or a shrub.

Be a close viewer of men and women around you and note how their facial foundation muscles react to various emotions. Pay special attention to eyes, eye eyebrows and mouth because these are the areas that play major part in forming various expressions.

Also be an watcher of body vocabulary trying to implement your findings in your pulling where appropriate.

There may be times when alternative to botox expression or body dialect may well not be sufficient for your character to communicate itself. For such situations you can represent your characters speech or thought using speech balloon or thought bubbles since you can find in various comic catalogs.

If the character is in motion you can use motion lines to stand for that. Trailing straight lines can not only show if the motion is slow or fast it can also demonstrate path of the motion.

Right use of shadows is also very important. The shadows can show the time through the day, weather [sharp shadow will suggest a sunny day, darkish shadow will mean a not so sunny day].

Detailed shadow will take lot of drawing work, if you do not want to spend much time for drawing darkness you can use small patches to represent darkness which is much better than using no darkness at all in your creation.

Use right kind of props to write your scene. The stage sets can set the feeling of the scene. Consequently be selective about the props. The best types of props can also add to the expressiveness of the identity.

This may sound like a great deal of work and imagine me it is. Yet the satisfaction that you will have by making beautiful and expressive animation characters will outweigh the work that you will placed into it.
